About Tristan Taylor

Tristan Taylor, AI literacy expert and founder of the Canadian AI Advancement Institute

Tristan Taylor is an action-oriented entrepreneur with a reputation for hard work, determination, and extensive collaboration. As founder of both the Canadian AI Advancement Institute and the International AI Advancement Institute, he works to democratize and standardize AI education so it is accessible to everyone, whether they reside in Canada and internationally, collaborating with industry leaders and AI experts and developing resources that make AI education timely and accessible.

He credits much of his early growth to the University of the Fraser Valley, which supported him through his recovery from a car accident and his shift into English and liberal arts, where he graduated with a diploma in 2023. As his professional work has taken off, he has kept giving back to the university, co-organizing its 2025 Ideation Jam and delivering lectures and AI workshops for faculty and students alike.

Since his time at UFV and the institute’s founding, Taylor has led CAIAI into AI literacy initiatives, regional and national partnerships, and the authorship of its Introduction to Artificial Intelligence textbook, citing and hosting experts from around the world.

The institute reaches learners directly and through partnerships alike. CAIAI partnered with the Digital Governance Council in April 2026 to expand the Council’s AI learning initiatives, introducing the self-paced course that leads to the Canadian AI Professional certification, and Taylor has led sessions for national associations such as the Canadian Construction Association and local advocacy groups like the Langley Chamber of Commerce.

He argues that putting AI in everyone’s hands requires a foundation of knowledge first, delivered through standardized, accessible learning rather than leaving stakeholders to learn on their own.

Tristan's Expert Insights

Taylor appears in Season 1 of our recorded expert insight interviews. He covers what generative AI has done to hiring, the difference between treating AI as a cost-cutting measure and an efficiency measure, and what he expects of AI literacy in the coming years.

  • Digital Insights, Season 1: A recorded interview on 12 May 2026, covering AI in hiring, business adoption, Canadian AI deployments, and AI governance.

Excerpts from an AI Education Expert

“I founded the institute a couple of years ago to help Canadians learn, adapt and succeed with AI. And we do that primarily through institutional and industry partnerships to co-deliver AI education and training.”

“Businesses are looking at AI as more of a cost-cutting initiative than an efficiency initiative, which, in theory, you could retain the same number of people, do far better and more efficient work. It’s almost being used to kind of, okay, we’re going to keep doing sales here maybe a little bit better, but we’re going to dump the people. And I don’t think that’s a solution.”

“I’m also excited to see what governance is put in place as we continue to advance, making sure that as we do so, it is ethical and it is safe.”
