About Timothy King

Timothy King, quantum and AI literacy expert working on cyber security skills in Canada

King came to technology teaching after spending a decade working in information technology, and paid his own way through a degree in English and philosophy at the University of Guelph in his mid-twenties. He began teaching in his early thirties, added a Bachelor of Education at Nipissing University and computer engineering teacher training at the University of Toronto, and holds industry certifications from CompTIA, Microsoft, and Cisco.

He spent more than twenty years building an advanced digital skills program at Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus, Ontario, coaching students to Skills Ontario competitions and running the building’s only computer technology room. In 2022, he was seconded out of that classroom to the Information and Communications Technology Council, and the work he did there is the spine of his career: cyber and technology education delivered across the country, including the national high school cyber competition ICTC runs, and a further secondment to the Quantum Algorithms Institute, where he co-authored a paper on cybersecurity in the age of quantum advantage presented in Accra, Ghana. That work carries directly into CyberSci, where the competitions run for college and university students.

Timothy's Expert Insights

King appears in Season 1 of our recorded expert insight interviews. He covers classroom and enterprise AI adoption, explaining why blanket rollouts fail; cognitive offloading and protecting skill development; anti-anthropomorphizing as the heart of AI literacy; cybersecurity and cyber ranges; quantum computing’s effect on encryption; and where to find trustworthy information about AI.

  • Digital Insights, Season 1: A recorded interview on 11 May 2026, covering AI in education, cybersecurity, quantum computing, and AI in manufacturing and agriculture.

Excerpts from a Technology Education AI Expert

“So if you’ve already developed the skills, AI is an accelerant. So that is why you shouldn’t be afraid of it. What you don’t want to do is let it replace your skills development.”

“So the whole AI panic we’re in right now is not an AI issue. It’s a human issue.”

“I would say look for organizations that don’t have a vested interest. If you want to learn about AI and you just go to vendors who are selling AI, you’re going to see a certain kind of thing.”
