Financial assistance opportunities for AI education and training
There are many AI scholarships available for learners seeking financial assistance for AI education across Canada. Whether you’re looking to upskill for the workplace, explore AI literacy opportunities, reduce financial barriers, or help distribute scholarship funds for AI adoption through a college, university, or organization, these initiatives listed below are a great place to start.
Take a look at the offerings listed below to get funding for your upcoming AI learning.
The Canadian AI Advancement Institute launched the Canadian AI Professional (C-AIP) scholarship initiative to expand access to the Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Course (IAI-001), a standardized, beginner AI course that helps Canadians adopt AI ethically, safely, and effectively. The course is supported by 13 AI experts worldwide and covers topics including AI ethics, AI security, machine learning, model training, prompt engineering, the practical applications of generative AI, and the customization of no-code AI tools.
The Canadian AI Education Scholarships are sponsored by the Canadian AI Advancement Institute (CAIAI), supporting its mission to democratize AI education and accelerate responsible AI adoption across Canada. The Canadian AI Professional (C-AIP) scholarship initiative includes two scholarship streams:
The Canadian AI Education scholarship stream provides partial funding for learners looking to upskill or reskill through AI literacy to remain competitive in the workplace. This scholarship stream is open to anyone and provides 30% off the tuition for CAIAI’s Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (IAI-001) course. The application is short and will take applications under two minutes.
The Higher-Ed AI Education scholarship stream provides a significant tuition discount for CAIAI’s Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (IAI-001) course, with scholarships disbursed to students through their respective college or university institution.
To access this stream, a college or university must form an AI Program Delivery Partnership with the CAIAI. These partnerships enable the CAIAI to upskill an institution’s students on their behalf, providing learners with access to a standardized AI curriculum that guides them through the process of learning, adapting and succeeding with AI. Once established, students will receive flat-rate tuition discounts, lowering the price of the Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course to a more accessible level for higher-education students.
Many learners, institutions, organizations, and government entities across Canada are making significant efforts to drive rapid AI advancement, yet are falling behind. Through these AI education scholarships, CAIAI aims to help make introductory AI courses more accessible to learners in Canada.
The Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) offers the Inclusive AI Scholarship Program, designed to reduce barriers that prevent Black and Indigenous students from participating in AI training programs. The scholarship funding is allocated to learners participating in AI programs delivered by CIFAR’s current NextGen AI Training Program partners.
Eligibility is limited to students who self-identify as Black or Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis for Canadian Indigenous populations) and who are applying to or plan to participate in AI training programs offered by CIFAR’s current NextGen AI Training Program partners. Students must meet the admission requirements of the specific partner training program they wish to join, and the program partners will consider scholarship applicants through their standard admissions processes.
The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) is one of Canada’s AI institutes, partnering with government and industry to expand practical AI skills.
Through two fully funded scholarship opportunities, Amii is supporting learners and professionals who are helping advance Canada’s climate and energy priorities: one program focused on AI upskilling in environmental sciences and meteorology, and another designed to build AI capability among mid-career energy-sector professionals contributing to the transition to a low-carbon economy. These programs are:
The Amii AI for Earth Scholarship, sponsored by Amii in partnership with Environment and Climate Change Canada, provides free access to specialized AI literacy training for 750 Canadian post-secondary students in environmental sciences and meteorology.
The scholarship covers a series of Amii’s online AI courses, including machine learning training and specialized modules for earth sciences and meteorology use cases. The scholarship is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Amii’s AI Pathways: Energizing Canada’s Low-Carbon Workforce is delivered in collaboration with the Government of Canada’s AI in Production (AIP) initiative and is designed specifically for mid-career energy-sector professionals.
This scholarship program focuses on practical AI literacy and applied machine learning skills that complement existing energy-domain expertise, helping participants apply AI use cases to clean energy innovation, emissions reduction, energy efficiency optimization, renewable integration, and smart grid modernization.
Eligibility is geared toward workers currently employed in Canada’s energy sector (or adjacent industries undergoing low-carbon transformation), and applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
Google offers Career Certificates AI Scholarships, which are specifically designed for mid-career professionals looking to upskill in AI-related fields, career changers seeking to enter technology sectors, and individuals from underrepresented communities in techproviding access to professional-level training in AI-related fields, including data analytics, cybersecurity, IT support, and increasingly, generative AI applications.
Google has expanded the program since its launch, specifically targeting mid-career professionals seeking to upskill or transition into AI-enhanced roles. These scholarships provide free AI courses or subsidized access to Google’s online Career Certificate programs.
Some programs may require a commitment to complete within specified timeframes. Deadlines and availability vary by cohort and region.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) sponsors the AWS Generative AI Scholarship in collaboration with Udacity, a prominent online learning platform. This scholarship initiative provides over 50,000 scholarships to high school and university students worldwide, with a focus on learners from underserved and underrepresented communities. The scholarship was launched as part of AWS’s “AI Ready” commitment to provide free AI skills training to millions of people worldwide.
All eligible applicants who complete the application process receive free access to Udacity’s “Introducing Generative AI with AWS” course. Selected scholarship recipients advance to comprehensive Udacity Nanodegree programs covering advanced generative AI topics, including fine-tuning foundation models, prompt engineering, responsible AI practices, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and application development using AWS SageMaker and other cloud-based AI services.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old to participate.
Royal Bank of Canada launched its RBC Next Step Scholarships, a suite of education and training awards designed to help Canadians build in-demand skills across different life stages. The program is administered by Universities Canada and supports high school students and lifelong learners through multiple scholarship streams:
