The Generative AI Beginner Course Bundle focuses on the ethical, safe and effective use of AI, with a particular emphasis on generative AI tools. It combines Introduction to AI Ethics and Security with Effective Prompting for Generative AI Models. It is an effective launchpad for learners who want to ethically, safely and effectively implement generative AI tools into their daily workflows and are seeking the strategies and tools to do so.
The bundle is two complete courses rather than a condensed version of either. Introduction to AI Ethics and Security runs approximately 4.75 hours across two sections: AI ethics, covering the four pillars of fairness, transparency, accountability and outcomes, and AI security, covering data protection, privacy, governance, and the difference between cloud and local AI infrastructure. Effective Prompting for Generative AI Models runs approximately another 4.75 hours on prompting techniques, model selection, and reducing hallucinations and artifacts in the results.
The pairing is deliberate. Prompting is the skill that produces results quickly, and it is the one most people try to teach themselves. Ethics and security decide whether those results are safe to act on, and it is the part almost nobody covers alone. Taken together, you finish able to direct a generative AI tool and to judge its output, which is a different position from being able to do only one of those.
The materials in both courses consist of a mix of chapter readings from each course manual, course videos, and online discussions where you post at least one comment on each chapter’s prompt. Each course closes its sections with a quiz requiring 70% or higher. Nothing is delivered live, so there are no sessions to miss, and you complete readings and videos at your discretion.
Generative AI is in ordinary use in Canadian workplaces well ahead of the training. Statistics Canada found that 35.9% of Canadian workers used generative AI tools at work in the year to March 2026, while only 51.5% felt familiar with applying them to their own work. Use is running ahead of capability.
Support is thinner still. The Future Skills Centre reports that nearly half of employees using AI receive no training at all, and fewer than one in ten small and medium-sized organizations have access to formal AI training. Most people are learning prompting by trial and error and learning the safety side not at all.
That is the gap this pairing closes, and the reason to take both rather than one. Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial privacy regulators have published joint principles for responsible, trustworthy and privacy-protective generative AI technologies, which set out how existing privacy law applies to these tools. Knowing how to prompt well is of limited use if you cannot tell which prompts you should not be writing.
