Most people use generative AI for one or two things and assume that is the extent of it. This module covers a range of generative AI use cases, including image and video generation, research, summarization, and structured and unstructured writing, and dives deep into prompting strategies to get the best outputs, along with resources for selecting the right AI tool for the task.
This is Module 4 of CAIAI’s Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course, available as an individual module, and it focuses on the applications of generative AI, giving learners hands-on experience applying generative AI across different contexts.

Citing AI use is something people overlook that we put a spotlight on. This practice matters and is urgently needed, as how to disclose AI involvement is not only controversial but also important to stakeholders of generative AI outputs.
The materials consist of chapter readings from the Introduction to Artificial Intelligence textbook, course videos, and online discussions where you post at least one comment addressing each chapter’s prompt. Chapters 9, 10 and 11 close with a quiz requiring 70% or higher. Nothing is delivered live, so there is no session to miss, and you complete readings and videos at your discretion.
The gap in Canadian workplaces is often not generative AI use itself; it is the depth and quality of said use. The Future Skills Centre found that nearly half of employees using AI receive no training, and over a third receive only minimal guidance. Nobody showed them what the tools can do, so they don’t use the rest. That is a training problem, not a tools problem.
Among workers using generative AI at work, Statistics Canada reports that 63.5% apply it to some but not most tasks, while only 11.6% use it across most or nearly all of their work. Statistics Canada also found that 19.2% of Canadian businesses used AI to produce goods or deliver services in the second quarter of 2026, and the ones getting value are generally the ones matching specific tools to specific tasks rather than defaulting to whichever assistant they opened first.
